A Message from Fr. Seth Concerning Catholic Schools Week
This week we celebrate and observe National Catholic Schools Week. Being a pastor with a school has been one of the great joys of my priesthood, and so I always look forward to this week each year.
As a parish, we recognize the value of Catholic education and support our families and school in educating our young people, so they can reach their full potential.
We acknowledge the vital role of the school faculty, staff and volunteers in this effort. We celebrate our students as they learn about their faith and the skills they need in the 21st century.
Most of all they learn the importance of spreading the Gospel and being a disciple of Christ.
The theme for this year’s Catholic Schools week is, “Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.”
This theme focuses on the core of Catholic education. Schools are not only communities themselves, they are also part of larger communities, including our parishes of St. John and St. Joseph, as well as the communities of the city of Duluth and our nation.
As a parish, we support our school through prayer and financial resources, and the school, in turn, collaborates with families to develop our children into future model leaders and Christ-centered citizens. More than ever we can see the need to have our young people formed by the teachings of the Church and to be guided into intentional discipleship to follow Jesus Christ above all else.
Our world needs more committed disciples in order to help transform the world for Christ. Our Catholic schools are part of our future as a Church and a nation. May God bless them and all who contribute to the important work they do on behalf of the children of our parishes and parishes across the diocese and the country.
